Reflective Diary

Week 1
I was away for both of these classes (Can provide doctors note if required)

Thursday 23rd July
Week Two Session One- Empathy/ Understand the audience
Exchange- Gain insight/ Sharing

What was achieved: Today we started off with by writing down topics of interest relating to wellbeing and we then placed them under 1 of  6 categories. After sharing all our interests i found that Sarah Sinai was also interested in body image so we paired up and began to research further into our topic together.
What was found out: Through the joint research we achieved in class we found out a lot about body image and body shaming that we weren't aware of. The topic is very broad and within the topic there are lots of little pathways we could choose to go down. The topic is also very sensitive so finding a way to approach this will be important.
How it advanced the project: By researching our topic we were able to get a deeper understanding for what the topic was about and how we could relate it back to wellbeing.

Friday 24th July
Week Two Session Two- Empathy/ Understand the audience
Exchange- Gain insight/ Sharing

What was achieved: For independent study we had to produce written content for each of the 8 categories (issue, background, audience, audience needs, client, client motivation, barriers and desired action). Everyone then laid out there 8 spreads, we then walked around and had a look at what everyone had put together. I always find walking around and looking at what other people have done helpful because it gives me more insight as to what we are supposed to be doing. We also discussed our idea on body shaming with a couple of other groups and our tutor Mark. After this lesson my partner and i have decided that we are going to drop the body shaming idea, and changing to workplace bullying. My partner has experienced workplace bullying so being able to closely relate to a topic will make it a lot easier. Towards the end of class we all did a 30 second presentation on what our topics were all on.
What was found out: My partner has experienced workplace bullying so being able to closely relate to a topic will make it a lot easier.
How it advanced the project: Experiencing something first hand gives you a deeper understanding, giving you a more solid foundation to build onto.

Thursday 30th July
Week Three Session One- Define/ Mock ups/ Visualise
Exchange- Point of view/ Brainstorm

What was achieved: For independent study we had to then produce a more refined 8 page document with written content and images, we also had to gather statistics and information that would be relevant to use in the 8 page document.
What was found out: When looking into statistics, there wasn't a lot of recent information within New Zealand, but when we found some reliable statistics i was quite shocked to see how big/common the issue actually was. I knew it was happening but wasn't aware as to how bad it was.
How it advanced the project:

Friday 31st July
Week Three Session Two- Define/ Mock ups/ Visualise
Exchange- Point of view/ Brainstorm

What was achieved: Today we spoke to Lee and just touched base on our topic and what kind of approach we wanted to take. We want to take a different approach by looking at the food chain and how certain animals attack other certain animals (as a metaphor for being bullied in the workplace) creating a more interesting perspective on the topic. At this stage we aren't sure how we are going to achieve this.

Thursday 6th August
Week Four Session One- Ideate/ Prototype
Exchange- Call to action/ Critique

What was achieved: For independent study Sarah and i went away and made our little characters on illustrator using the pen tool, we also gathered the last of our information we needed for the 8 pages and drew up rough concepts indicating where everything was going to be placed. For next class we need to focus on getting all the information and images onto the spreads. Im not sure if we will be able to get this done for tomorrow's class due to out of uni commitments.

Friday 7th August
Week Four Session Two- Ideate/ Prototype
Exchange- Call to action/ Critique

What was achieved: Today everyone bought in their draft visual briefs and we had our final critique. This was helpful for those who had a draft visual brief's to show, but Sarah and i hadn't quite put ours together, but we spoke to Mark after the critique and got some pretty helpful feedback being that if we are going to go ahead with the animal idea we needed to come up with a narrative, and showed us an example of this.
What was found out: The example mark showed us then became inspiration for our project, and it was then that we realised how exactly we were going make this rhetoric approach work.
How it advanced the project: Seeing a project that was pretty similar to what we were wanting to do meant that

Monday 10th August

Sarah and I met up and formatted the 8 page spreads and went through and finished up all the last little bits and pieces ready to export- ready for printing on Wednesday.
